Stockholm, Dec. 5(ChinaEurope) — China will ban all imports of solid waste from the beginning of next year.
It will also ban the dumping, stacking and disposal of waste products from abroad.
The country was once the world’s biggest recipient of overseas trash. It began importing solid waste as a source of raw materials in the 1980s.
The practice supports economic growth but harms the environment and public health.
China’s imports of solid waste have continued to drop amid the country’s green development drive.
